Fixed teeth in one day: how do I save costs?

Feste Zähne an einem Tag Header

Thanks to advances in orthodontic implantology, it is possible to fit fixed teeth in one day. This means that implants and fixed prostheses can be fitted in a single session and in less time.

In today’s article we would like to look at the process and durability for fixed teeth in a day and how you can save costs in the process.

New teeth in one day: an overview

Fixed Teeth in a Day, also known as All on 4 Dental Implants , is a treatment technique that replaces an entire arch of broken or missing teeth with dental implants in a single visit.

At least four dental implants are placed in the upper or lower jaw, and a full arch of fixed dentures are placed on the implants the same day.

The patient benefits from having provisional, natural looking teeth placed on the implants later that same day while the implants fuse with the jawbone.

A denture in a day is a convenient alternative to traditional dentures that can positively impact oral function and confidence. Unlike dentures, day-old teeth are fixed and unlikely to need replacing or adjustments over time.

Am I suitable for treatment with fixed teeth?

If you live with uncomfortable dentures, loose or missing teeth, or are struggling with a damaged crown or bridge, fixed teeth in a day could be an option for you.

You may be suitable for treatment if you:

  • wear a loose prosthesis that affects your quality of life,
  • have severe periodontal gum disease and tooth loss (your gum disease needs to be treated first),
  • have no teeth at all (are toothless),
  • You have a defective bridge and do not want to wear a prosthesis,
  • You would like to have fixed teeth during your treatment,
  • are restricted to soft foods due to ill-fitting dentures, loose or missing teeth.

How are they different from traditional dental implants?

With this technique, patients with misaligned teeth or total tooth loss immediately receive a full arch of fixed, temporary teeth.

This first set of teeth is intended to speed up the healing process and ensure that patients can eat on the day of implantation and are not dependent on their prosthesis. They are replaced a few months later by permanent third teeth.

The denture is usually supported by at least four dental implants. The number of implants depends on the needs of the patient and whether a fixed prosthesis or a bridge is needed.

The implants are strategically placed in the areas of the jaw where the bone is denser and stronger. Dental implants, which are placed in the back of the mouth, can be positioned at an angle of up to 45 degrees to maximize use of the existing bone.

This can reduce the need for bone grafts and will help ensure your new denture is optimally supported and fully stabilized.

Tilting the implants also allows the implantologist to bypass vital structures such as the sinuses and nerves.

Course of treatment for dentures in one day

We explain what to expect on the day of the procedure and how the process for new and fixed teeth takes place in one day :

Late morning

On the day of treatment, any remaining teeth with a poor prognosis are removed.

At least four dental implants are placed in the jaw at the determined positions. In an uncomplicated case, bone grafting is not required if you have adequate jawbone.

You can opt for local anaesthetic, light sedation or intravenous sedation to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable throughout the procedure.

The abutments, which are the posts that hold the implants in place, are placed and impressions are taken. These impressions are used by the dental technician to design your new teeth.

lunch break

You stay in the practice and rest after the implant treatment.  A dental technician will fabricate a temporary tooth that is tailored to your implants.

afternoon

A few hours later, the custom-made provisional teeth are attached to the newly inserted implants. You are never toothless during the treatment and the provisional looks very natural.

After the procedure, some precautions are required to allow the implants to successfully integrate into the jawbone.

Your implantologist will explain how to care for your new teeth and you will be asked to attend a follow-up visit.

The final supply

Follow-up appointments will be made to check that all is well with your new and fixed third teeth. After about three to six months, the implants should be completely fused (osseointegrated) with the jawbone.

Depending on your treatment plan, your dentist may take new impressions to create a definitive set of fixed teeth. You will then have an appointment to exchange the temporary restoration for a permanent fixed denture that will be designed to ensure a perfect fit.

How long can they last?

It is important to understand that All on 4 implants consist of two parts: the implants themselves and the prosthesis that the implants support. Although they can last a lifetime with good oral health, the prosthesis is likely to wear out more quickly.

Dentures, like fixed dentures, are susceptible to wear and damage from chewing and biting. While it is made of durable materials, it will likely need to be replaced at some point.

With proper care and good oral hygiene habits, dentures attached to All on 4 implants should last at least 10 to 15 years.

Benefits of Fixed Teeth in a Day

The All on 4 technique allows the patient to enjoy the benefits of dental implant treatment immediately after placement. The benefits of fixed teeth in a day are:

  • they require only one surgical intervention, minimizing the number of appointments,
  • they are easy to care for and, unlike conventional dentures, cannot come loose, slip or rub against the gums,
  • the patient can smile confidently and eat light food immediately,
  • the patients have fixed teeth throughout the process,
  • because the implants are placed at an angle, longer implants can be used to increase stability, thereby avoiding extensive bone grafting.

In addition, only 4-6 implants are needed to support an entire arch of teeth, which can be less expensive than an entire arch of individual dental implants.
